Fabulous Folk Tales

November 7, 2010

Third grade read an Anansi story in the library this week as part of our Genres of Fiction unit.  Anansi is a well know character in African folktales and is known as a “trickster”.  In traditional trickster tales, the main character is often very clever and is able to get the best of other, much more powerful, characters.  In the story Anansi and the Moss Covered Rock, Anansi is indeed very clever but in the end  is defeated by small, shy Bush Deer.

Talk about some of the other folktales you have been reading.  Have you read some where the main character could be considered a “tricky” person?
